Discovery

Our patterns were kind of accidental ...

Design is about discovery. To leave room for mistakes and embrace them. The result went beyond our imagination. It’s in this chaotic spot between science and fun where we stumbled on magic.

Imperfections make us who we are. Slight imprecision in our machines mixed with our manual handling gave us stars, oceans, and all things beautiful on this earth and beyond.

We were inspired by ancient Egypt’s awareness of the cosmos and, coincidentally, ended up with recycled Egyptian plastic depicting the same scenes any sustainable practice aims to protect.

Welcome to Volume One of our ongoing material discovery. Our three main patterns are found in the same sheet. Here’s how.

Starfall

We prepare our sheets by hand which involuntarily creates contours. Our machine’s inaccurate tilt allows the plastic to gain directional momentum as it escapes the mould.

Follow the stars

Cosmic Stone

Little did we know that a millimeter under our Starfall surface we would find a completely different pattern hiding underneath.

Uncover

Orbit Grain

After opening the mould to find Starfall, removing the surface for Cosmic Stone, we flipped the sheet around and found our third pattern. A reminder that plastic waste is currently orbiting our planet.

  • Solar Flares

Yellow & White Mix (PP) bonds in a flowing manner as it expands. Samples available in studio.

  • Currents

Turquoise Mix (LDPE) sourced from recycled baby diapers. Fibers and color variation gave us of aerial views of the ocean. Samples available in studio.

  • Chlorophyll

Green & White Mix (PP) depicts the pigmentation of plants.
    Samples available in studio.

  • Rush

Pink Mix (HDPE) inspired by the rush of particles inside the carbon atom. Samples available in studio.

  • Clusters

Experimental mix of Teal (LDPE) & Black (HDPE) resulted in a cluster of stars. Under development. Reference sheet available in studio.

  • Asteroid

Experimental mix of White (HDPE) pellets and Black (HDPE) chunks gave us this meteor shower. Under development. Reference sheet available in studio.

  • Lava

Red & Petroleum (HDPE) Mix with a whole lot of hot momentum. Samples available in studio.

  • Lapis Lazuli

Blue (HDPE) Mix revisits the metamorphic rock. Samples available in studio.

  • Unknown

Black, Yellow & White (PP) Mix. You tell us what does this look like. Under development. Reference sheet available in studio.
